OSUN 2018 : P D P AND MISPLACED PIORITY
BY OKE HAKEEM
The creation of the state of osun on the 27th of August 1991 by the Ibrahim Babaginda led Administration out of the old oyo state was a new dawn in the life and hope of the citizens. And since then, the state has been experiencing ups and downs.
The Leo Ajiborisha Administration tried all it could in making sure the infant state had some basic infrastructure before the state embarked on a full scale developmental pedestral. The solid foundation laid by Ajiborisha has often been consolidated by every successive Administration that the state has witnessed.
Osun as a state of the virtue in the south western part of Nigeria has continued to live up to its billing by producing so many gladiators in the political, education and socio economic sectors of development in Nigeria. The enormous contributions of the well meaning Osun indigenes have benefited the state, the country and the world at large. Looking at these gladiators one would rightly identify people like the late CICERO OF ESA OKE CHIEF BOLA IGE, CHIEF S.M AFOLABI (of blessed memory), BABA BISI AKANDE, PROF. A.A AYOADE, Dr. YEMI FAROUNBI AND OGBENI RAUF AREGBESOLA to mention a few.
Meanwhile, the positive and developmental programmes started by the Leo Ajiborisha led Administration continue to grow and multiply, The God given human and material resources abundantly endowed to the state have had multiplier effect on the state as well as the citizenry.
Interestingly, the growth and the development of the state enjoyed a quantum leap during the Bisi Akande led Administration which was the architect and proud owner of a spectacular state secretariat as well as an ultra modern Governor’s office. This singular giant stride made the young state a cynosure among its peer that were making a mockery of Governance by conducting their businesses and activities in an uncoordinated and rented apartment scathered all over the state.
As a matter of fact, Bisi Akande led Administration opened a new chapter of infrastructural development drive of the state by embarking on so many developmental programmes devoid of any known white elephant project, which then put the state among the fastest growing states in the country.
Ironically, instead of the PDP Government that came after the successful Government of Bisi Akande to continue the developmental strides. The Olagunsoye Oyinlola PDP led Administration with a psyche enmeshed in flamboyance and extravagance lifestyle as witnessed when he administered Government activities in Lagos State, The trait which was resuscitated in Osun misplaced its priority.
Regretably, counting the achievement of the PDP government led by Olagunsoye Oyinlola in the state is as difficult as counting the grasses in the sky. The Government recklessly wasted the state resources through the unreasonable hosting of many events in the state including the jamboree hosting of PDP south west caucus in miccom golf course Ada in which the state resources were lavishly spent is a testimony to my admonitions.
Also, the tourism and beauty pageant jamboree held in the state during their unceremonious tenure also amounts to waste of public resources as this has not in any way brought the desired result to the socio economic growth of the state. The unnecessary display of sheer extravagance qualities of the PDP Government justified an Administration which is directionless and a Government that has lost focus but only has penchant for dance! Dance !! dance !!! and eat venture.
However, it could also be recalled that during the PDP led administration in the state, the state hospitals which are not more than ordinary consultation clinics and are yearning for Government attention were left to suffer its faith as the jamboree Government has other plan by expended millions of naira of the state in donating drugs and other medicals to the ECOMOG troops in Liberia which was being financed by the United Nations (UN).
Never, has what the PDP done with the state budget been done in this country. Even the Federal Government of Nigeria has not done so by giving the largest share of the budget of the state to the transport sector while other sector such as health, education, works, agriculture and rural development are lagging far behind in terms of development.
In a situation where the infrastructure of the state are begging for attention the PDP government rather preferred to flood the state with vehicles a situation which symptomatic the PDP policy of what policy analysts called misplacement of policy.
However, the creation of the state had a destiny with infrastructural development in terms of Governmental policies which are meant for the development of citizen welfare. The destiny of faith is what bequeathed the Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola led Administration to the state.
Since the advent of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola government in the state of Osun the socio economic sectors of the state has witnessed giant strides and these has been in tadem with the hopes and aspirations of the founding fathers of the state.
The spirit of the founding fathers of the state has always being in terms of infrastructural development which the Aregbesola APC Government has been keeping faith with and this has manifested in so many sectors of the state economy. The achievement of the Government and the world institutions acknowledgement that has continued to trail the peoples policies of the government need to be continued by the next administration when Aregbesola led Government come to an end in November 27th 2018.
As a result, I will implore the good people of the state to continue to work with the spirit of the founding fathers by making sure they collectively elect another progressives government that will take the developmental strides to another positive level and tried all they could do in trying to resist another PDP Government in the state as not to take the state back to Egypt of misplaced priorities as witnessed in the Government of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola PDP led administration.
