The Number One Online Media Group in Nigeria – Progressives e-Group has looked inward to lend its piece of advice to the good people of the state of Osun particularly the critical stakeholders like traditional rulers, landlords, hoteliers, security agencies among others to work together with the state governor – Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola in order to put an end to the recent distortion of peace of the state by bandits, kidnappers and other unknown criminals.
It has been in the news that kidnappers had struck many times along Akure-Ilesa road, Ikire-Ibadan road and Obokun-Oke Imesi road where several people were kidnapped and later gained their freedom, after payment of ransom. To us, it is very unfortunate that this is happening in the state of Osun which had collected many awards as “most peaceful state” for many years in Nigeria repeatedly. Though, our status as the most peaceful State is still intact, but we need to work hard to sustain this status.
Progressives e-Group as a group that promotes good governance, we feel that the government is trying her best to maintain the peace and orderliness in the land. It is a known fact that state government of Osun under Ogbeni Gboyega Oyetola has conveyed Security Summit, held meeting with all security agencies in the state to map out strategies to curtail activities of kidnappers and bandits in the State. State government has again supported Operation Puff Adder – another security outfit to curtail crimes generally in the State. Also in its efforts to maintain peace in Osun, government of the State of Osun has met with all south western governors, so as to work together in the area of joint security to maintain peace and order across all south westerner states so that those men will not have hidden place. Governor Oyetola also recently walked into the office of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai to seek for the support of Nigerian Army and discussed joint operation of all security agencies in the state. In recognition of all these moves, we feel the state government is trying her best in maintaining and sustaining the peace we have been experiencing in the state.
Progressives e-Group is calling on all stakeholders in the state of Osun to work together, so as to sustain the peace we have been witnessing and enjoying. We all know security of lives and properties is responsibility of every citizenry, we implore all not to politicize this important aspect of our life, because insecurity does not know religion, tribe, old or young. We need to be secured and we have to do it together.
State government should continue to work with all security agencies to make both day and night patrols on our major roads a daily routine. The roads from Ibadan to Akure, through Ilesa. Iwo Road to Ibadan, Osogbo to Ilesa all through Ijesa land, Osogbo – Ila roads and Osogbo – Ilorin, through Ikirun Offa roads must be manned all the time. This will go a long way to promote our peace because this will scare those criminals and they will stop attacking our people and kidnap of innocent citizenry.
In the same vain, our traditional rulers, community chiefs, landlords, hoteliers and other individuals in the state should cooperate with government and security agencies by working together to promote the peace in our land. We are of the hope that these bandits and kidnappers are residing somewhere within the state and they have agents within who inform them any of plan or any attack against them. Our land cannot be classified as safe if we aid criminals in our various communities. We should expose them through the phone numbers that Nigerian Police released to the public domain. This will prevent the fear of our people, thinking they may be attacked if they report crime matters to the Police.
The group implore government and major stakeholders to continue working together in resolving this recent attacks by the bandits and kidnappers in the state of Osun because our peace in the state is important to us and we feel our own contribution is important even if we can’t carry guns to go to the field like our security men.
