Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the State of Osun has disbursed over N1.13 billion naira to 189 pensioners in the state.
The Governor while presenting Retirement Bond Certificates to 189 retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme at the Local Government Service Commission, Abere, Osogbo, condemned confrontation as an approach to pressing home their demands.
Governor Oyetola assures the retirees of his government’s priority of their welfare at all times stressing that pensioners who served their state meritoriously for thirty five years should not suffer or be made to, upon retirement.
He however attributed government’s inability and belated response to certain pressing demands to the national economic meltdown.
Relatedly, the state Governor urged the pensioners to always exercise patience and decorum when their entitlements are being delayed, and to desist from adopting confrontation and reproach against the government.
He said: “It always surprises me when some of your people go out in confrontational demonstration.
“And it’s even more absurd than surprising when I hear series of lies and unfounded rumours being peddled by your people, especially regarding their last accusation of our access to Paris Club Refund.
“Paris Club disbursement is a prerogative of the Federal Government, and as such, its disbursement to states is always mediated and viral in the media space with analysis of what each states receives in the national dailies. So, it’s not a secret thing”.
According to Mr. Oyetola, 105 pensioners across the local government areas of the state would share over N474.7 million naira while over N538.6 million naira would be distributed among eighty four Primary School teaching retirees.
The Governor thereafter assured the retirees that their entitlements would be given to them as promptly as at when due.
“I urge you to always be patient with government. We won’t lie to you, never. We will update you always on the true picture of the state of affair with every sense of sincerity of purpose”, the state helms man said.
He added further that very soon, there would be another set of monetary disbursement to the retirees in the state, stressing that all the entitlements owned both those in active service and those retired would be paid.
