All roads led to Ikire in Irewole Local Government Council Area of Osun State yesterday as the state Governor Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress(APC) chairman in the state, Prince Gboyega Famodun, led the state political functionaries and state party executive members respectively to the 50th memorial anniversary of the death of Pa John Oyeyemi Alabi, father of the state deputy governor, Mr Gboyega Benedict Alabi.
It was indeed a time the seat of government in Osogbo could be said to have been temporarily relocated to Ikire in honour of the deputy governor as who’s who in government and party administration in the state were sighted jostling for space to grace the occasion.
Some senators, House of Representatives members and members of the state House of Assembly of the APC extraction were not also left out of the dignitaries on the occasion.
The state Publicity, Strategy and Research Director of the party, Barr Kunle Oyatomi and Kola Olabisi, the Media Consultant to the state party chairman, were also in the entourage of Famodun for the epoch-making occasion.
In his remark on the occasion, Governor Oyetola enjoined the parents to take proper care of their children and wards, adding that it was because the nine children left behind by the deputy governor’s parents were successful that made possible such glamorous remembrance ceremony for the late Alabi’s father.
Oyetola also solicited for prayer without ceasing from the people for his administration, adding that all what had hitherto constituted distractions to his government had been divinely removed.
He said that his government would not relent in its continuous efforts to evenly spread the dividends of democracy across the state.
Earlier in his remark, the chief host, Mr Benedict Alabi, stated that he has every reason to be thankful to God as the eighth child of the nine children of his mother, for the divine protection enjoyed by him and all his siblings since his father died at the age of 49 in 1969.
The deputy governor said that though he was too young to know his father physically but his good deeds being repeated by the people have been a testimony for him to know that his father added value to humanity during his life time.
He used the occasion to express a profound gratitude to his elder siblings who took up his responsibilities of his education in the absence of his father.
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable(Mrs) Foluke Etteh, who is an elder sister of the deputy governor was also an hostess on the occasion.
