The Speaker of the state of Osun House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye has reassured mothers and girl child the legislature’s commitment to advocating for the right of girl child at all times.
He stated during an advocacy visit of the Federation of Women Muslim Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) to the assembly complex in celebration of the girl child day which holds today.
Representing the national president of FOMWAN Amira Alimat Jubril, State of Osun FOMWAN chapter president, Amirat Kudirat Oladunmoye said in her statement that “educating a girl child is educating the nation” and every girl child deserves a conducive environment for learning. Adding that the rape, harassment, violence, sex for mark , hawking and other maltreatment on a girl child must stop.
While responding, Hon. Timothy Owoeye represented by the clerk of the house, Mr. Simeon Akinwale Amusan said that the “girl child day “ is meant to create awareness about the challenges being faced by girl child in acquiring education. He added that Osun State house of Assembly has been playing her role and will continue to do that making reference to the laws that has been legislated by the honourable house to protect girl child right, part of which are ;
I. Child right law,2007
II. Female Genital Mutilation prohibition law,2007 and
III. Protection Against Domestic Violence law,2013.
Members of FOMWAN and some selected female Muslim students who accompanied the state Amira were seen with plight cards with different inscription advocating for girl child right.
