The State of Osun House of Assembly has resolved to use the instrument of effective legislative oversight to monitor efficiency of government policies, programmes as well as budget performance to enhance service delivery to the people of the State of Osun.
This is coming at the close of technical sessions of the 3 days retreat for the members of the 7th assembly at Royal Park in Iloko-Ijesha.
Legislative oversight is a tool used by the legislative arm of the government to perform it’s role of checks and balances in a democracy. Oversight is the main duty of lawmakers apart from representation and bills consideration to solve challenges.
The technical sessions of the 3 days retreat for the legislators of the State of Osun House of Assembly help to equipped the law makers especially the first timers on topics including, budget and budgeting process, fundamentals of effective oversight, tools for effective committee engagements, roles of public hearings, petition and constituency engagement in legislative process as well as financial autonomy law and the implication for the house.
The mandate from the retreat is for the lawmakers to imbibe the skills acquired to enhance service delivery through effective legislative engagements.
